Keyhole Laparoscopic Spay

Advanced Veterinary Care

Why we offer laparoscopic spays

At Highgate Veterinary Clinic, we offer laparoscopic spaying for female dogs as a gentler alternative to a traditional spay. Using keyhole surgery techniques, the procedure can be performed through tiny incisions, resulting in less pain, reduced risk of complications, and quicker healing for your pet.

If your pet is registered with Highgate Veterinary Clinic in London, we can discuss whether a laparoscopic spay is the best procedure for your dog's individual needs.

Why choose a laparoscopy spay?

Laparoscopic spaying is a gentler alternative to traditional surgery for female dogs. Using keyhole surgery techniques, we can perform the procedure through two or three tiny incisions (usually around 5-10mm each), rather than one large incision that can be several inches long.

The benefits for your pet include:

  • Less pain – Smaller incisions mean significantly less tissue trauma and discomfort. Most pets are noticeably more comfortable in the days following surgery and need less pain relief.
  • Faster recovery – Your pet can typically return to normal activity much sooner. While traditional spays require 10-14 days of strict rest, laparoscopic spay patients often bounce back within just a few days.
  • Better visualisation – The camera gives us a magnified, detailed view inside the abdomen, allowing for greater precision and safer surgery. We can see exactly what we're doing throughout the entire procedure.
  • Reduced complications – Smaller incisions mean less risk of infection, bleeding, and post-operative hernias. There's also minimal scarring.
  • Quicker healing – The tiny incisions heal much faster than traditional surgical wounds, and there's less chance of your pet interfering with the site.

While the cost of a laparoscopic spay is higher due to the specialised equipment and training required, many pet parents feel the benefits to their pet's comfort and recovery make it well worth the investment. We're happy to discuss both options with you so you can make the best choice for your pet.
